Prayer Journal

Here in this space you will see glimpses into my personal Prayer Journal.  One of the ways that I pray is through painting, sketching, and writing.

Struggling Surrender

Surrender

As I painted this painting, the words that kept coming to me were:

I will not go quietly, I will not go gently into that good night.*

This painting represents the ongoing struggle of surrender, the ever present yielding of self.  I am not always good at surrender and it is a constant battle of wills.

*Inspired by the words of Dylan Thomas in his poem Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night

Chaos Into Order

Chaos Into Order

Prayerfully dealing with the upheaval that is currently my life.  This piece was done along the same vein as raw journaling.

Psalm 119

Reflecting on Psalm 119 after practicing lectio divina.

Sacramental Living

Sacramental Living

As I reflected on the sacraments, specifically the eucharist, this image emerged.  John 6:35 had been a part of my bible readings that day.

Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.

John 6:35 (NIV)

Bearing With One Another in Love (For Sonny)

Bearing With

Some times my prayer journal involves intercessory prayer.  This prayer was prayed for my Father-in-law, Sonny, who recently had cancer surgery.  I had also meditated on Ephesians 4, earlier in that day.

John 1:5

John 1

Reflecting on John's prologue after practicing lectio divina.  Words are specifically from John 1:5.

Psalm 51

Psalm 51

Reflecting on Psalm 51 after practicing lectio divina.

Surrendered Vessel

Surrendered Vessel

This piece emerged through the process of reflecting on Philippians 2, creating a visio divina of sorts, impacted, of course, by my current place in life.

As I contemplated God's calling on my life, this piece came into being.
