40 Acres & A Mule:

Previous

In 1865 General Sherman enacted Special Field Orders #15 that was to grant 40 Acres and an Army Mule to work the land to each freed slave in order to provide a fresh start. After President Lincoln was assassinated this order was rescinded by President Johnson, and only some of the freed slaves got to keep their 40 Acres and a Mule. To this day 40 Acres and A Mule represents hope, freedom, and opportunity. This series represents a collaborative effort to interpret 40 Acres and A Mule and how it specifically affected the historical community of Royal. These are my portion of the 40-Canvas Series.  To see the rest of the series, please click here.
